France will support any Olympic bid by India: Prez Emmanuel Macron

New Delhi Jan 27, (WD):

During a banquet hosted by President Droupadi Murmu, French President Emmanuel Macron reassured India that the hosts of the 2024 Olympics would support their efforts to organize the multi-sport event in the country in the future. Macron, the chief guest at India’s 75th Republic Day celebrations, expressed eagerness to strengthen sports cooperation with India, stating, “We will be delighted to build stronger cooperation on sports with you and definitely support your intention to organize the Olympic Games in India.”

France, hosting the 2024 Olympics from July 26 to August 11, has the highest participation as chief guest on India’s Republic Day. Following the Olympics, the Paralympics in Paris will commence from August 28 to September 8.

On January 19, while inaugurating the Khelo India games, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the government’s aspiration to host the 2036 Olympic Games. He highlighted the efforts made in the last decade to provide international exposure to athletes and create an ecosystem for their development. India achieved its best performance in the 2020-21 Tokyo Olympics and continued to excel in the Asian Games and the Para Asian Games.(WD)
