Big News; Kashmir gears up for Snowfall as Srinagar Records -5.3⁰C

Srinagar, Jan 24 (WD):

Jammu and Kashmir prepares for long-awaited rains and snowfall as temperatures drop to minus 5.3°C in Srinagar.

Anticipating an end to the extended dry spell, the weatherman forecasts mainly dry weather and shallow to moderate fog over the plains of Jammu division. Isolated to fairly widespread light rain and snow is predicted for the next two days.

The Meteorological office issues an advisory from January 28-31, warning of possible temporary road closures in higher reaches and important passes like Sinthan pass, Mughal Road, Sadhna, and Razdan pass, Zojila, etc. Travelers are advised to plan accordingly.

On February 1, there is a possibility of light rain/snow at scattered places, according to the meteorological department.

Temperature-wise, Srinagar records a low of minus 5.3°C, Qazigund at minus 5.4°C, Pahalgam at minus 6.3°C, Kokernag at minus 2.3°C, Kupwara at minus 5.3°C, Gulmarg at minus 4.8°C, Jammu at 2.3°C, Banihal at minus 1.8°C, Batote at 1.5°C, and Bhaderwah at minus 1.0°C.

The Kashmir valley is currently under ‘Chillai-Kalan,’ the 40-day harsh winter period ending on January 29, followed by ‘Chillai-Khurd’ from January 30 to February 19 and ‘Chillai-Bachha’ from February 20 to March 1.
