Ramazan Crescent Sighted, Fasting To Begin In J&K From tomorrow

The holy month of Ramadan is set to commence in Jammu and Kashmir on March 12, as announced by Grand Mufti Nasir-ul Islam after the sighting of the crescent moon tonight.

Mufti Nasir emphasized that the decision was made following thorough consultations with a 10-member committee comprising Islamic scholars, including Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Moulana Rehmatullah. The unanimous conclusion reached by the committee confirms Tuesday as the first day of Ramadan in the region.

Extending his greetings to the people of Jammu and Kashmir, Mufti Nasir urged them to embrace the spiritual significance of Ramadan by engaging in prayers, reading the Quran, and seeking repentance from the Almighty. He also announced that the first Tarawih, the late-night prayers observed during Ramadan, would commence from today (Monday), marking the beginning of this sacred period for Muslims in the region.

As the crescent moon sighting signals the start of Ramadan, Muslims in Jammu and Kashmir prepare to observe this month-long period of fasting, reflection, and spiritual growth. With the guidance of religious leaders and the support of the community, believers embark on this journey of self-discipline and devotion, embodying the core values of Islam during this auspicious time.
