Two Killed, 16 Injured as Bus Overturns in JK

A tragic accident in the Akhnoor sub-division of Jammu has claimed the lives of two passengers and left 16 others injured when a bus overturned on Sunday. The accident occurred near Kaleeth village in the evening, as the driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle. The deceased, identified as Kewal Kumar and V Bhagat, were pronounced dead at the scene.

The injured passengers were swiftly transported to a nearby hospital. Three individuals, due to the severity of their injuries, were later referred to the Government Medical College Hospital for specialized treatment. The swift response by emergency services helped in providing immediate care to the injured, although the incident has left the community in shock and mourning.

This incident marks the second major accident in the Akhnoor area within the past four days. On May 30, another tragic accident occurred when a bus carrying pilgrims fell into a 150-foot gorge at Tungi-Morh. That accident resulted in the deaths of 22 people and injuries to 57 others, highlighting the recurring safety concerns in the region.

In addition to the bus overturning, a separate incident on the same day involved a fatal collision between a two-wheeler and a bus at Nud village on the outskirts of Jammu. Sunny Kumar, a 25-year-old resident of Gurha Jagir, lost his life in this collision, while another individual, Anku Kumar, aged 23, was injured and taken to the hospital for treatment. This further underscores the dire need for improved road safety measures.

The repeated accidents in the area have raised alarms about road safety and the need for stringent measures to prevent such tragedies. Local authorities are likely to face increased pressure to implement better safety protocols and ensure that drivers are adequately trained to handle challenging driving conditions. The community’s demand for safer roads is growing stronger in the wake of these incidents.

The recent spate of accidents has left the community in mourning and highlights the urgent need for improved infrastructure and safety measures on the roads. The families of the deceased are now grappling with their sudden and devastating losses, while the injured face a difficult recovery ahead. The psychological impact on the community is profound, with a renewed focus on preventing such incidents in the future.

Emergency services and medical personnel have been commended for their prompt response to the accidents. However, the incidents underscore a broader issue of road safety that requires immediate attention. The local government and transport authorities will need to collaborate on strategies to enhance road conditions and ensure the safety of travelers. The implementation of these measures will be crucial in preventing further tragedies.

As investigations into both accidents continue, it is hoped that the findings will lead to actionable recommendations to prevent future incidents. The community’s resilience will be tested as they come together to support the affected families and advocate for safer travel conditions in the region. The collective efforts of the authorities and the community will be essential in addressing these challenges and ensuring safer roads for everyone.
