Srinagar Youth Dies at SMHS Hospital; Family Alleges Medical Negligence

A 19-year-old youth named Faisal Ahmad from the Soiteng area of Srinagar passed away at SMHS on Saturday evening, as reported by WATTAN DAILY(WD). Faisal was brought to SMHS late on Friday night after complaining of stomach pain. Initially, he seemed fine but experienced breathlessness after being shifted to a ward on Saturday and eventually succumbed to his condition.

Family members and relatives alleged that there was a lack of ventilator support and claimed that a doctor, instead of attending to the patient, took the file and left abruptly. They demanded a thorough investigation into the matter and requested action against the doctor in question.

Contrary to the family’s allegations, a senior official at SMHS stated that Faisal, who was initially receiving treatment at a private hospital, arrived at SMHS in critical condition with no pulse or blood pressure. The doctors had obtained consent from the family for a high-risk surgery due to a hole in Faisal’s intestine, as he was already in shock.

Following Faisal’s demise, the family members expressed outrage despite knowing the critical state of the patient. Regarding the claim that the doctor fled the scene, the official explained that the doctor left for his safety when confronted by the emotional reaction of the family upon learning of Faisal’s passing.

The official mentioned that further investigations are underway, and if any negligence is discovered, appropriate action will be taken.
