KPDCL Urges Consumers to Avail Interest Waiver Under Power Amnesty Scheme

Kashmir Power Distribution Corporation Limited (KPDCL) has urged its domestic consumers to take advantage of the interest waiver offered under the Power Amnesty Scheme, which will assist them in settling their long overdue bills. This appeal was made through a statement released by a KPDCL spokesman via the Srinagar-based news agency, Kashmir Dot Com.

The Power Amnesty Scheme, initially notified in 2022, has now been extended until March 31, 2025. This extension aims to accommodate domestic consumers who previously could not benefit from the scheme. The spokesman expressed satisfaction with the positive response the scheme has received thus far.

KPDCL encourages consumers to visit their respective Electric Subdivision offices to clear their outstanding electricity dues without incurring a late payment surcharge, as outlined in the scheme. Consumers have the option to either pay their principal amount in full or in equal installments to receive a waiver on the interest charged.

So far, 13,985 domestic consumers have availed themselves of the scheme, resulting in KPDCL collecting a revenue of Rs.12.42 crore. The spokesman emphasized that this scheme represents the last opportunity provided by the Government, stressing that it will not be extended beyond March 31, 2025.

Consumers who do not take advantage of this scheme risk disconnection, as KPDCL will have no option but to disconnect their services without any further notice. The spokesman highlighted ongoing inspections and disconnection drives to ensure compliance.

To avoid disconnection, consumers are urged to clear their outstanding bills promptly. The spokesman noted that tickets are being issued for the disconnection of smart-metered consumers who fail to pay their dues, and heavy penalties are being imposed on flat-rated consumers exceeding their sanctioned energy loads.

KPDCL is also enhancing the load of flat-rated consumers in a calibrated manner according to their consumption levels, focusing particularly on high-end consumers. This is being done after conducting proper load surveys to ensure fairness and efficiency.

The KPDCL spokesman concluded by reiterating the importance of utilizing this final opportunity to settle outstanding dues under the Power Amnesty Scheme and avoid the inconvenience of service disconnection and penalties.
