J&K Higher Education Department Drafts Private University Policy

The Jammu and Kashmir Higher Education Department is in the process of drafting a ‘Private University Policy’ to establish private universities in the region.

Top officials have confirmed that the department is in contact with all stakeholders to clear up any related issues and is holding regular discussions to finalize the policy.

The policy will be sent to various departments, including Finance, Law, Revenue, Industry, and Planning, for suggestions and discussions.

Once finalized, the draft will be presented for approval at the Administrative Council meeting.

The policy aims to address crucial issues such as land allotment and obtaining necessary permissions for setting up universities.

It will also include provisions for reserving seats for local youth, providing scholarships to needy students, and other relevant issues to promote education within Jammu and Kashmir.

Principal Secretary Higher Education Department, Alok Kumar, has acknowledged that the department is working on drafting the private university policy.

This initiative is expected to attract investors and enhance the educational infrastructure in the region, providing more opportunities for students in Jammu and Kashmir.
