Jammu Srinagar Rail Link Ready by June this Year
The Jammu-Srinagar Rail Link is nearing completion, with authorities aiming to finalize it by June this year. This ambitious project will connect Katra to Sangaldan, enhancing rail connectivity between Kashmir and the rest of the country. Currently, trains operate from Kanyakumari to Katra and from Baramulla to Sangaldan in the Kashmir Valley. The upcoming connection will seamlessly bridge this gap, facilitating travel from Kashmir to Kanyakumari.
Railway Protection Force (RPF) Director General Manoj Yadav recently conducted an extensive inspection of the ongoing work along the Banihal-Sangaldan section in Ramban district. Accompanied by Northern Railway officials, Yadav traveled from Srinagar to Banihal via rail car, meticulously examining stations and security measures along the way. He also assessed security arrangements at Khadi-Sumbad and Sangaldan railway stations during his visit.
The Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link (USBRL) project, inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in February, includes the crucial 48.1 km Banihal-Sangaldan section. This project, totaling 272 km, marks a significant milestone in India’s railway infrastructure development. Phase I, covering the Qazigund-Baramulla section, was inaugurated in 2009, followed by subsequent phases inaugurating the Banihal-Qazigund and Udhampur-Katra sections in 2013 and 2014, respectively.
The completion of the Jammu-Srinagar Rail Link will not only enhance transportation but also boost economic growth and tourism in the region. It will provide a faster and more convenient mode of travel for both passengers and freight, further integrating Jammu and Kashmir with the national railway network. The meticulous inspection by RPF Director General Yadav underscores the importance of ensuring security measures along the new railway line.
With the project progressing rapidly, stakeholders anticipate its completion by June, marking a significant milestone in India’s railway connectivity. The new railway link is expected to bring socio-economic benefits to the region and strengthen ties between different parts of the country. As work continues at pace, all eyes are on the upcoming inauguration, heralding a new era of connectivity for Jammu and Kashmir.
