Government Announce’s Holidays In J&K On These Date’s
The Jammu and Kashmir government has declared public holidays on the dates of polling for five parliamentary constituencies in the Union Territory. This decision, announced on Monday, aims to facilitate voter turnout and ensure that eligible voters have the opportunity to participate in the democratic process without hindrance.
According to the government order issued by the General Administration Department (GAD), the polling days in these constituencies will be observed as paid holidays for all eligible voters, including those employed in various sectors such as business, trade, and industrial undertakings. The order also extends this benefit to daily wage and casual workers.
Specific dates have been designated as holidays for each parliamentary constituency. For instance, April 19th will be a holiday in the Udhampur Parliamentary Constituency, while April 26th will be observed as a holiday in the Jammu Parliamentary Constituency. Similarly, May 07th, May 13th, and May 20th will be holidays in the Anantnag-Rajouri, Srinagar, and Baramulla Parliamentary Constituencies respectively.
Furthermore, the government order ensures that individuals who are ordinarily residents of a constituency but work outside, along with casual workers, are entitled to the benefit of a paid holiday on polling day. This measure aims to encourage maximum participation in the electoral process and uphold the principles of democracy.
In compliance with the explanation to Section 25 of the Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881, the declared paid holidays will be observed accordingly. This move underscores the government’s commitment to facilitating democratic participation and ensuring that every eligible citizen has the opportunity to exercise their right to vote.
