Declaration of class 8th Results a flop show

The eagerly awaited declaration of the class 8th results by the Jammu and Kashmir State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT) turned into a fiasco as the websites of the respective District Institutes of Education and Training (DIETs) crashed, leaving parents and students frustrated. Despite the official communication from SCERT directing DIET principals to declare the results simultaneously, technical issues marred the process.

With around 165,000 students appearing for the exam and 158,000 declared qualified, anticipation ran high. However, as news of the result spread, parents rushed to the DIET websites, only to find them inaccessible due to server problems. Officials acknowledged the issue, attributing it to server downtime and technical glitches arising from direct result uploads by clusters.

While efforts were underway to restore the DIET websites, frustration mounted among parents, especially in Kashmir, where none of the 10 DIET websites were functional. Complaints poured in from across districts, highlighting the inconvenience caused to families unable to access their children’s results.

Parents criticized SCERT for announcing the results late at night without ensuring the smooth functioning of the system, emphasizing the need for proper preparation to avoid such disruptions. Despite attempts to reach Joint Director SCERT Hemraj Pakhroo for comment, he remained unavailable, adding to the lack of clarity surrounding the situation.

In the aftermath of the botched result announcement, concerns lingered over the efficacy of the education system’s digital infrastructure and the need for proactive measures to prevent similar incidents in the future. As stakeholders await resolution, the incident underscores the importance of robust technological readiness in educational processes to mitigate inconvenience for students and parents alike.
