Cop Injured After Being Assaulted in South Kashmir, Case Filed

Srinagar, May 27: A policeman was injured following an assault by several individuals during the execution of a court order in the Khurmpora village of south Kashmir’s Shopian district on Monday, according to officials.

An official from the Kashmir News Observer reported that the police team was carrying out a court warrant at the residence of Manzoor Ahmad Khanday in Khurmpora village when they faced resistance. During the confrontation, some persons attacked the police team, leading to injuries.

The injured policeman, identified as Aijaz Ahmad, was initially taken to the district hospital in Shopian. However, due to the severity of his injuries, he was subsequently referred to the Sher-i-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) in Soura for advanced treatment.

The incident has sparked concern among local authorities and the police department, highlighting the risks and challenges law enforcement officers face while executing judicial orders in certain regions. This event underscores the volatile conditions in specific areas, necessitating better protective measures for police personnel.

In response to the assault, the police have registered a case and initiated an investigation to identify and apprehend the assailants. Efforts are underway to ensure that those responsible for the attack are brought to justice.

Local residents expressed their shock and dismay over the incident, noting that such violent acts only serve to disrupt peace and hinder the enforcement of law and order. Community leaders have called for calm and cooperation with the police to maintain stability in the region.

Authorities have reiterated their commitment to upholding the law and ensuring that court orders are executed without hindrance. They have also assured that adequate measures will be taken to protect police personnel from similar attacks in the future.

This incident adds to the series of challenges faced by the police in Kashmir, where executing judicial and administrative duties can often lead to confrontations. The police department has urged the public to respect legal processes and cooperate with law enforcement agencies to foster a safer and more orderly society.
