Jammu, December 15 2023: (Web Desk Wattan)

Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha made significant announcements during an event today, emphasizing the meticulous implementation of the Supreme Court’s directive for Assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir by September 30, 2024. He assured that the electoral process would be conducted with utmost adherence to the court’s decision. Additionally, Sinha addressed a longstanding concern by revealing that reservations for Paharis would be implemented in the near future.

During the ‘Agenda Aaj Tak’ event, Sinha declared a decisive end to the protracted debate surrounding the abrogation of Article 370. He underscored the widespread acceptance of the Supreme Court’s verdict on this matter, marking a conclusive resolution to the contentious issue.

Responding to queries about the election deadline, Sinha referred to statements by Home Minister Amit Shah and Prime Minister Narendra Modi made on August 5, 2019. He outlined the steps taken since then, including the establishment of the Delimitation Commission and the initiation of the electoral process. Sinha affirmed the government’s commitment to diligently executing the Supreme Court’s order.

Highlighting positive developments in the region, Sinha reported a remarkable 350 percent increase in foreign tourist arrivals in the Valley. Additionally, he shared that over two crore domestic tourists had visited this year, benefiting everyone associated with the tourism sector in the Union Territory.

Addressing social issues, Sinha announced forthcoming reservations for Paharis, referencing a bill introduced in the Lok Sabha during the Monsoon session. He underscored the positive impacts of the abrogation of Article 370, such as empowerment for various communities and political reservations for Kashmiri Pandits.

On matters of national integration, Sinha stated that the people of Jammu and Kashmir aspire for complete integration with India, expressing their desire to join the nation.

Turning to geopolitical questions about Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK), Sinha suggested seeking a statement from the Ministry of External Affairs. He also commented on the propaganda from Pakistan, expressing confidence and stating that the concerns raised by the neighboring country do not warrant worry.

Discussing the security situation, Sinha noted changes brought about after the repeal of Article 370, asserting that terrorists no longer have a place at the table with high-ranking officials. He remarked on the halt to the glamorization of militant burials, emphasizing the involvement of families in the process.

Concluding on a positive note, Sinha highlighted significant developments in the region, including a substantial increase in foreign tourists, promising investments, and ongoing infrastructure projects totaling Rs 1.5 lakh crore.
