2 Dead, 3 Hospitalized after falls into well in North Kashmir
Two individuals lost their lives and three others were hospitalized following an incident in the Kupwara district of north Kashmir. The tragedy occurred on Wednesday while a group of five people were cleaning a well in Satboin Dardpora.
An official from the area informed News Agency Kashmir Scroll that the individuals involved fell unconscious due to suffocation while inside the well. Promptly, a rescue operation was initiated, and all five individuals were extricated from the well and transported to a nearby hospital.
Upon arrival at the hospital, doctors declared two of the individuals, Farid Ahmad Khoja and Bashir Ahmad Khoja, dead. The three other individuals, Safeer Ahmad, Qasim ud Din, and Abdul Hameed, were admitted to the hospital and are reported to be in stable condition.
The local police have taken cognizance of the incident. A police officer told News Agency Kashmir Scroll that a case has been registered, and an investigation is underway to determine the exact circumstances that led to the tragic event.
This incident highlights the dangers associated with well-cleaning activities, particularly in environments where proper safety measures may not be strictly adhered to. Suffocation is a common hazard in such scenarios, often due to a lack of adequate ventilation.
Earlier the same day, a similar incident occurred in the Khansahib area of central Kashmir’s Budgam district. In this case, two men fell into a well while attempting to rescue another man who had accidentally slipped into it.
Such incidents underscore the critical need for safety protocols and emergency preparedness when engaging in potentially hazardous tasks like well cleaning. Authorities may need to consider implementing stricter regulations and providing training to prevent such occurrences in the future.
The community in Kupwara is undoubtedly in mourning following the loss of two of its members. The incident serves as a tragic reminder of the potential dangers faced by those undertaking everyday tasks without sufficient safety precautions.
