Jammu Srinagar National Highway Important Update

The Traffic Police Headquarters in Jammu and Kashmir issues a comprehensive advisory regarding the state of the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway (NHW) and other key routes. On March 18th, repair work at Dalwas resulted in a 4-hour 50-minute blockage, with slow movement and single-lane traffic due to breakdowns and poor road conditions between Nashri and NAVYUG Tunnel.

Travelers are urged to avoid night journeys on the Jammu-Srinagar NHW due to the risk of shooting stones between Ramban and Banihal. Load carrier operators must adhere to advisory guidelines, especially concerning fresh perishable/live stock transportation, and ensure vehicle fitness and fuel sufficiency.

Furthermore, HMV operators are reminded to avoid overloading and carry adequate fuel. Only HMVs with 6 and 10 tires are permitted on Dhar road. The traffic plan for March 20th permits LMVs from both sides of the Jammu-Srinagar NHW, with HMVs allowed from Jakheni towards Srinagar after road condition assessment.

Special Focus on Safety Measures and Convoy MovementsSecurity forces are advised to adhere to traffic plans to avoid congestion, particularly on the narrow stretch between Nashree and Banihal. Convoy movements will be regulated accordingly, with tomorrow’s movements from Jammu to Srinagar contingent on NHW status updates from TCU Ramban.

Route Blockages and Advisory on Alternate RoutesKey routes like Srinagar-Sonamarg-Gumari Road, Mughal Road, Bhaderwah-Chamba Road, and Kishtwar-Sinthan-Anantnag NH-244 remain blocked due to snow accumulation. Travelers are advised to confirm road statuses from designated Traffic Control Units before embarking on journeys.
