Eid Al Fitr officially announced in Australia
The Australian Fatwa Council has announced that Wednesday, April 10, 2024, will mark the first day of Eid Al Fitr in Australia. This decision comes after confirming that the new moon of the month will be born on Tuesday, April 9, 2024, at specific times in Sydney and Perth.
In Sydney, the new moon is expected to be sighted at 4:20 am AEST, coinciding with the sunset at 5:39 pm. The moon will set 12 minutes later, at 5:51 pm, indicating the end of Ramadan on Tuesday, April 9, 2024.
Similarly, in Perth, Western Australia, the new moon is anticipated to be visible at 2:20 am AWST, with sunset at 6:02 pm and moonset at 6:18 pm, signaling the end of Ramadan on the same day.
Meanwhile, in the UAE, the Moon sighting committee will convene on Monday, April 8, 2024, to search for the crescent. If spotted, Ramadan will conclude at 29 days, with Eid Al Fitr celebrated on Tuesday, April 9. Otherwise, the holy month will last 30 days, and Eid Al Fitr will be observed on April 10.
The decision by the Australian Fatwa Council and the impending moon sighting in the UAE highlight the diversity of practices within the global Muslim community regarding the timing of Eid Al Fitr.
