Weather update,Rains, snow Expected in J&K From 22nd to 24th March

In Jammu and Kashmir, recent weather conditions have brought rains to the plains and fresh snowfall to higher reaches, notably Gulmarg, which received 22 cms of snow. The Meteorological Department has forecasted another wet spell from March 22 to March 24. Until March 20, generally dry weather is expected across Jammu and Kashmir.

Over the past 24 hours, various areas experienced precipitation, with Srinagar receiving 9.1mm of rainfall, Qazigund 24.6mm, Pahalgam 15.6mm (accompanied by 3 cms of snow), and other regions also recording significant rainfall. Gulmarg, in particular, received a substantial amount of fresh snowfall.

Temperature fluctuations have been notable, with most places experiencing a drop in minimum temperatures. Srinagar recorded a minimum of 4.4°C, above normal by 0.7°C for this time of the year. Other areas such as Qazigund, Pahalgam, Kokernag, and Kupwara also saw decreases in temperature compared to the previous night.

Gulmarg, known for its skiing facilities, recorded a low of minus 4.8°C, notably below normal by 1.5°C. Meanwhile, Jammu recorded a minimum temperature of 13.5°C, slightly below normal for the winter capital of J&K. Other regions like Banihal, Batote, and Bhaderwah also experienced varying low temperatures.

Overall, the recent weather pattern in Jammu and Kashmir has brought precipitation to various areas, including significant snowfall in higher regions, while temperatures have seen fluctuations, with many areas experiencing a drop in minimum temperatures. The Meteorological Department’s forecast suggests that this trend may continue with another wet spell anticipated later in March.
