Weather update, possibility of light rain and snow in J&k From today

Light rains have been reported in the plains of Jammu and Kashmir, with higher reaches such as Gulmarg experiencing fresh snowfall, according to officials.

The meteorological department noted that Srinagar received traces of rain, Pahalgam received 0.6mm, Kupwara 0.2mm, and Kokernag 1.2mm of rainfall, while Gulmarg received 2cms of snowfall in the last 24 hours until 0830 a.m. today.

Temperature-wise, Srinagar recorded a minimum of 5.9°C, slightly higher than the previous night’s 6.3°C, with a deviation of 2.2°C above normal for this time of year. Qazigund saw a minimum of 5.8°C compared to 4.4°C the previous night, marking a deviation of 3.5°C above normal.

Pahalgam recorded a low of 1.7°C, 2.9°C above normal, while Kokernag remained steady at 4.4°C, 1.9°C above normal. Kupwara town saw a low of 4.0°C, 1.7°C above normal, and Gulmarg recorded a low of -1.6°C, 1.7°C above normal.

Jammu recorded a minimum temperature of 12.5°C, 1.5°C below normal. Banihal, Batote, and Bhaderwah recorded lows of 6.6°C, 6.4°C, and 6.0°C, respectively.

Looking ahead, there is a possibility of light rain and snow at a few places over the next 24 hours. On Wednesday, there is a possibility of light to moderate rain and snow at widespread places, with the likelihood of light rain and snow at a few places on March 14. Generally dry weather is expected from March 15-20.
