Temperature Shoots Up in Kashmir, Heat Wave Alert Issued
Kashmir is experiencing a surge in temperatures once again, with Qazigund and Kokernag recording heat waves on Saturday. The mercury in these areas soared above 5 degrees Celsius than the normal temperature.
According to the Kashmir News Observer, Qazigund recorded a temperature of 33.4 degree Celsius, while Kokernag recorded 33.0 degree Celsius. These temperatures signify a heat wave in these regions.
Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir, witnessed a maximum temperature of 34.4 degree Celsius, which is 4.3 degrees above the normal temperature. This is just 0.2 degrees short of entering into a heat wave.
The rise in temperatures was witnessed across Kashmir, amidst forecasts of heat wave conditions in Kashmir and some parts of Jammu division for the next 72 hours.
In other areas, Pahalgam recorded a temperature of 29.9 degree Celsius, while Kupwara recorded 34.6 degree Celsius. Gulmarg, a famous ski-resort, recorded a relatively cooler temperature of 24.5 degree Celsius.
The mercury has also risen in Jammu division, with Jammu recording a maximum temperature of 37.4 degree Celsius. Banihal recorded 32.0 degree Celsius, while Batote, Katra, and Bhaderwah recorded 29.3 degree Celsius, 33.5 degree Celsius, and 34.2 degree Celsius respectively.
However, there is a possibility of a short spell of rain in a few areas of Kashmir and many parts of Jammu division on July 23 and 24.
The weather forecast indicates that the heat wave conditions will prevail for the next 72 hours, followed by a brief spell of rain in some areas.
