MeT predicts improvement in weather from today afternoon, fresh spell of rain on Sept 6-7 in J&K
Srinagar Sep 03: The Meteorological Department in Srinagar has forecast an improvement in weather conditions over the next few days, with a brief spell of light to moderate rain expected in scattered areas of Jammu and Kashmir on September 6-7. This prediction comes after significant rainfall was recorded in various parts of the region over the last 24 hours, ending at 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday.
During this period, the highest rainfall was observed in Kathua, which recorded 66.6mm, followed by Udhampur with 65.0mm and Bhaderwah with 44.2mm. Other areas, including Banihal, Jammu, and Katra, also experienced considerable rainfall, with measurements ranging from 36.6mm to 32.2mm. In the Kashmir Valley, Kokernag recorded 24.6mm, while Qazigund, Batote, Pahalgam, Gulmarg, Kupwara, and Srinagar saw varying amounts of precipitation, from 21.9mm to 2.9mm.
The weather forecast for the next 24 hours indicates generally cloudy skies with the possibility of light to moderate rain or thundershowers at many places until late afternoon, after which gradual improvement is expected. However, on Wednesday and Thursday, the region is likely to experience generally dry weather, with brief showers possible at isolated locations.
Looking ahead, the Meteorological Department has predicted another spell of light to moderate rain at scattered places on September 6-7. From September 8-15, the weather is expected to remain mostly dry, with brief showers at isolated spots. Despite this outlook, the department has issued an advisory warning of intense showers in some areas, which could lead to flash floods, landslides, mudslides, and shooting stones in vulnerable regions.
In addition to the rain, there is a possibility of hailstorms accompanied by gusty winds at isolated places. Travelers, including trekkers, tourists, and local commuters, are advised to plan their activities accordingly to avoid any disruptions due to adverse weather conditions.
Regarding the minimum temperatures recorded across the region, Kathua saw the highest at 25.0°C, while Gulmarg recorded the lowest at 9.4°C. Other notable temperatures included 17.8°C in Srinagar, 15.6°C in Qazigund, 13.7°C in Pahalgam, 16.1°C in Kupwara, and 14.7°C in Kokernag.
The Meteorological Department’s forecast and advisory highlight the need for caution among residents and travelers in Jammu and Kashmir, especially in areas prone to weather-related hazards.
