MeT Forecasts ‘Dry and Hot’ Weather as Mercury Soars in J&K
Srinagar, May 22 (WD): The meteorological department has forecast mainly dry and hot weather over Jammu and Kashmir for the next few days. A department official indicated that no significant weather activity is expected until May 28. However, a heat wave is anticipated over the plains of the Jammu Division.
The night temperatures have continued to rise, with Srinagar recording a low of 14.2°C, up from 13.2°C the previous night. This temperature is 2.5°C above the normal for the summer capital of J&K for this time of year.
Qazigund, the gateway town of Kashmir, experienced a minimum temperature of 11.6°C, compared to 10.6°C the previous night, marking an increase of 1.3°C above normal.
In south Kashmir’s Pahalgam, the minimum temperature recorded was 7.5°C, which is higher than the previous night’s 6.2°C and 1.3°C above the normal for this popular resort area.
Kokernag, also located in south Kashmir, saw a minimum temperature of 11.4°C against the previous night’s 10.8°C, showing a rise of 1.3°C above normal.
Kupwara town recorded a low of 10.7°C, slightly up from 10.5°C the previous night and 0.3°C above the usual temperature for this region.
Gulmarg, the renowned skiing resort in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district, recorded a minimum temperature of 11.0°C, significantly higher than the previous night’s 8.2°C and 4.2°C above the normal for this time of year.
In Jammu, the minimum temperature was 27.1°C, up from 24.7°C the previous night, and 2.7°C above the normal for the winter capital of J&K. Other areas recorded temperatures as follows: Banihal at 13.2°C, Batote at 17.5°C, and Bhaderwah at 14.8°C.
