Fresh Snowfall In Parts Of Kashmir

Fresh snowfall has blanketed parts of Kashmir, while rain has swept through many areas in the plains, officials reported on Friday. In the higher reaches of the valley, including popular tourist spots like Gulmarg, Tangmarg, and Doodhpathri, fresh snowfall was recorded overnight.

Meanwhile, the plains of the valley, including the summer capital Srinagar, experienced steady rainfall, according to officials.

The meteorological department has issued forecasts indicating widespread moderate rain or snow across most areas of the Union Territory until March 3, with the peak activity expected from the night of March 1 to the night of March 2.

Heavy to very heavy snowfall is anticipated in certain areas, particularly in the higher reaches of north, central, and south Kashmir, as well as the Pirpanjal range of Jammu Division during this period.

Additionally, the plains of Kashmir are expected to receive moderate rain or snow, while the plains of Jammu may see moderate rain, with the possibility of heavy rain in districts like Ramban, Udhampur, and Reasi.

The forecast also warns of thunder, lightning, hailstorms, and gusty winds in some areas. In response to the adverse weather advisory, authorities in the valley have decided to extend the winter vacation for students in schools. As a result, classes will now resume on Monday.
