Gulmarg Welcomes 10,000 Visitors on Christmas Eve, Draws Global Attention again

Gulmarg experienced a festive influx of around 10,000 visitors on Christmas Eve, creating a picturesque winter scene with joyous celebrations among locals, domestic tourists, and a significant number of foreign visitors. The Assistant Director of Tourism, Javeed Ahmed, expressed optimism about the winter season, foreseeing a surge in foreign arrivals as winter activities unfold.
According to Ahmed, Gulmarg saw 4,912 visitors on Sunday and 4,828 on Monday, marking a robust start to the season. With a total of 16,000 tourist arrivals so far, there is an anticipation of a substantial increase in footfall, setting the stage for a successful season.
The average daily influx of 5,000 tourists is expected to rise, making Gulmarg poised for a bustling New Year, according to the Assistant Director of Tourism. Despite the high demand, the hospitality sector, including hotels and guesthouses, efficiently accommodates the surge, showcasing Gulmarg’s capacity to host a large number of tourists.
Director Tourism, Raja Yaqoob, highlighted the department’s preparations for the New Year and expressed joy in witnessing mostly foreign tourists exploring the valley. He shared positive news about Pahalgam nearing full capacity and Sonamarg, opening for winter tourism for the first time, experiencing a rise in tourist arrivals.
During Christmas celebrations at Gulmarg, Saint Mary’s Church hosted a joyous event led by Father Eric and Father Venoo. Community members gathered for prayers, and a ceremonial cake-cutting added to the festive spirit, attended by officials and stakeholders.
