Srinagar teen surprises all, Develops Head Controlled Bionic Arm

Srinagar, Dec 19 (WD News):

Hazik Hassan Ahanger, a student from Srinagar, surprised everyone by making a robotic arm that you can control with your head. Regular robotic arms are not common because they are expensive and hard to get, but Hazik, in the 12th grade, managed to create one that works differently.

Hazik has been into engineering and electronic things since he was a kid. In the 10th grade, he learned about robotics and got really excited about what it can do. He wanted to make something helpful for people using robotics. When he saw a bionic (robotic) arm, he was fascinated and wanted to create one that stands out and can be used by more people, especially those who can’t afford expensive ones.

It took him a year and a half to make his special robotic arm. The cool part is that while a high-tech bionic arm in other countries can cost a lot (like $30,000 to $80,000 in Europe), Hazik made his for just 1300 rupees, making it the most affordable one ever.

The usual bionic arms work with a technology called ‘Electromyography,’ but Hazik’s arm is different. It doesn’t need movement in your arm nerves; it works by tracking your head movements. This means even if someone can only move their head, they can use it. He named it the Gyro Arm, and it picks up head movements with a hairband-like device.

The Gyro Arm is easy to use. If you want to close the bionic hand, just tilt your head forward; to open it, tilt your head backward from a straight position. Head rotations control right or left movements. It’s lightweight and has a rechargeable battery that you can charge with a regular phone adapter.

Hazik’s main goal is to inspire young people in Kashmir to get into technology and do something positive for society instead of getting involved in negative things like drugs or suicides. He’s grateful to his family for supporting him and hopes that with some help from the government, he can do more projects to make a difference in society.
