Hyderabad, Jan 21 (WD):
Indian tennis icon Sania Mirza’s family confirmed on Sunday that she and Pakistani cricketer Shoaib Malik have separated, following Malik’s announcement of his second marriage with actor Sana Javed. The end of their high-profile union has drawn attention from sports enthusiasts in both countries. Malik, 41, posted his wedding picture with Sana on social media platforms on Saturday.
In a statement issued by Mirza’s family, it was revealed that Sania and Shoaib have been divorced for a few months. The family wished Shoaib well for his new journey and requested fans to respect Sania’s need for privacy during this sensitive period.
Speculation about their strained relationship had been ongoing, with Malik recently unfollowing Mirza on Instagram, adding fuel to the rumors. The couple, who got married in April 2010, has a five-year-old son named Izaan, currently residing with Mirza.
Sania Mirza, in a recent Instagram post, hinted at personal struggles, mentioning the challenges of marriage and divorce. The 37-year-old tennis star retired from professional tennis last year after a distinguished career spanning two decades, during which she won six Grand Slam titles in doubles and mixed doubles events.
