Mohammad Amir, Imad Wasim set to retire from international cricket again
Pakistani cricketers Mohammad Amir and Imad Wasim are set to retire from international cricket once again, with an official announcement expected soon. This decision comes after their brief return to the national team to participate in the T20 World Cup 2024. Both players had previously retired from international cricket, with Amir stepping away in 2020 and Imad initially retiring in November 2023.
Imad Wasim had made a notable comeback following a successful campaign in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2024, where he played a pivotal role in leading Islamabad United to victory. His exceptional performance in the final against Multan Sultans earned him the Player of the Match award. Despite his retirement, Imad’s stellar performance in the PSL reignited his desire to represent Pakistan at the highest level.
Similarly, Mohammad Amir returned to the national team for the T20 World Cup 2024, hoping to make a significant impact. Both players were motivated by the dream of winning the World Cup for Pakistan. Their return was fueled by the desire to contribute to the team’s success and to conclude their international careers on a high note.
However, Pakistan’s journey in the T20 World Cup 2024 was cut short as they were unable to advance past the first round. This outcome led Amir and Imad to reconsider their future in international cricket. Despite their efforts and high hopes, the early exit from the tournament was a major disappointment for the team and its fans.
Ahead of their final match for Pakistan against Ireland, Imad Wasim addressed the media, expressing his thoughts on their impending retirement. “As far as retirement is concerned, we have a match tomorrow. We will play the match and after that we will think. To be honest, a lot of things are about to be sorted out in the Pakistan team. The PCB chairman and officials will sort them out,” Imad stated during a press conference.
Imad also reflected on their motivations for returning to international cricket. “We came back for one reason: not just for the sake of playing. Amir and I returned to have one last go and win the World Cup. We’ve been playing in T20 World Cup semi-finals and finals, which is a significant achievement,” he explained. The desire to bring joy to the nation and to finish their careers with a memorable achievement drove their decision to return.
Despite their decision to retire from international cricket, both Amir and Imad will continue to participate in various cricket leagues around the world. Their presence in domestic and international leagues will undoubtedly be missed by their fans in Pakistan, but they will continue to showcase their talents on different platforms.
As they prepare for their final appearance in a match against Ireland, Amir and Imad’s contributions to Pakistani cricket will be remembered and celebrated. Their careers have been marked by significant achievements and memorable moments, and their retirement marks the end of an era for Pakistan’s cricket team.
