India is set to commence their journey in the 2024 T20 World Cup against Ireland in Group A. This group also includes arch-rivals Pakistan, hosts USA, Ireland, and Canada. The tournament, slated to run from June 4 to June 30, is co-hosted by the USA and West Indies. A highly anticipated clash between India and Pakistan is scheduled for June 9 at the Eisenhower Park in New York, as reported.
According to the tournament format, there are two rounds, followed by semi-finals and a final. The 20 participating teams are divided into four groups of five each. The top two teams from each group will progress to the Super 8 stage, where eight teams will be divided into two pools of four each. The draw for the Super 8 will be announced beforehand, with teams assigned groups based on their pre-tournament seedings. If a team outside the top eight seedings qualifies for the second round, it will be assigned the Super 8 seeding of the eliminated team.
Defending champions England find themselves in Group B alongside Australia. Co-hosts West Indies, two-time winners, are in Group C with New Zealand. The groups are as follows:
- Group A: India, Pakistan, Ireland, Canada, USA
- Group B: England, Australia, Namibia, Scotland, Oman
- Group C: New Zealand, West Indies, Afghanistan, Uganda, Papua New Guinea
- Group D: South Africa, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Netherlands, Nepal.
