Imad Wasim Comes Out of Retirement for ICC Men’s T20 World Cup

Star Pakistan all-rounder Imad Wasim has made a significant announcement regarding his international cricket career. On Saturday, he emerged from retirement, expressing his readiness to play for Pakistan in the upcoming ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, slated to commence from June 2 in the USA and the West Indies. Imad made this decision after discussions with Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) officials, indicating his renewed commitment to serve his country in the T20I format.

In a statement shared on X (formerly Twitter), Imad Wasim conveyed his change of heart: “I am happy to announce that pursuant to meeting PCB officials, I have reconsidered my retirement and am delighted to declare my availability for Pakistan cricket in T20I format leading up to ICC T20I World Cup 2024.” He expressed gratitude to the PCB for their trust and pledged to give his best to bring glory to Pakistan, affirming that his allegiance lies with his country above all else.

Imad Wasim’s decision to return to international cricket comes after his retirement announcement in November 2023. However, his exceptional performance in the recently-concluded Pakistan Super League (PSL) 9 compelled cricket pundits and fans alike to advocate for his reconsideration. Playing for Islamabad United, Imad played a pivotal role in leading his team to their third PSL title, emerging as a standout player in crucial knockout matches.

His contributions were instrumental in Islamabad United’s journey to the PSL 9 title. Notably, Imad delivered a match-winning performance against Multan Sultans in the group stage, propelled his team into the playoffs. In subsequent matches, he showcased remarkable bowling skills, bamboozling opponents and delivering crucial batting performances when needed the most.

Imad’s stellar performance reached its pinnacle when he etched his name into PSL history by claiming a five-wicket haul in the tournament’s final match. He followed up his bowling feat with a composed unbeaten innings, further solidifying his reputation as a reliable all-rounder. With an illustrious record in T20Is, having represented Pakistan in 66 matches, Imad brings invaluable experience and skill to the team, boasting 486 runs and 65 wickets in the shortest format of the game.
