ICC slaps two-match ban on Sri Lanka’s Wanindu Hasaranga:Report

Mendis moved down the pitch, but the delivery would have exceeded the batter’s waist height if he had been at the popping crease. Despite this, the umpire did not call it a no-ball.

The batter requested a review, but ICC rules only allow reviews for dismissals. Consequently, play continued without a review.

After Mendis’s last-ball six, a dot and wide ball followed, leaving the team needing 10 runs to win.

Following the defeat, Sri Lanka’s captain, Wanindu Hasaranga, strongly criticized the umpire’s decision. He stated that such errors shouldn’t occur in international matches, especially when the delivery posed a potential danger to the batsman.

Hasaranga emphasized that while a close call might be acceptable, such a high delivery could have struck the batsman’s head. He questioned the umpire’s suitability for international cricket and suggested they consider another role if they couldn’t make such crucial decisions accurately.
