Wild animals kill 40 sheep, injured 15 at Gund Jahangir, Bandipora

Shepherds, locals seek compensation, thank admin for sending teams for spot inspection

Srinagar, Aug 30 (NVI) At least 40 sheep were killed and 15 others injured while 20 animals have gone missing after a wild animals attacked them in Gund Jahangir village of north Kashmir’s Bandipora district, eye-witnesses said.

They said that wild animals attacked the temporary shelter of the almost 300 sheep late on Thursday night. “Almost 40 sheep have been killed and 15 others injured badly. Around 20 animals are missing,” said a shepherded Ghulam Ahmed Bhat. He said it wasn’t clear whether the wild animal was a lion, tiger or a leopard.

The other shepherds said that it seems that a group of leopards attacked the shelters of sheep. “The missing seem to be have been taken away by the wild leopards. Though picture is not clear,” they said. The locals thanked the officials for sending teams from the administration and the wild life department for damage assessment.
