Two Crorepatis Among Five Competing for Ladakh Lok Sabha Seat

In the upcoming elections for the Ladakh Parliamentary seat, two notable contenders, Tashi Gyalson from Leh representing the BJP and independent candidate Mohd Haneefa Jan from Kargil, are joined by three others in the race. The polling for this seat is slated for May 20, coinciding with the 5th phase of the ongoing Parliamentary elections.

In their affidavits submitted to the Election authorities in Ladakh, each candidate has revealed their assets and liabilities. Mohd Haneefa Jan stands out as the wealthiest among them, with immovable assets valued at over Rs 3.16 crores, including properties worth lakhs of rupees. Additionally, he disclosed cash, jewelry, a car, and a loan liability.

Tashi Gyalson, the BJP candidate and former CEC of LAHDC Leh, divulged cash, bank deposits, investments, and immovable assets valued at Rs 97.34 lakhs. He also declared loan liabilities in both his and his spouse’s names.

Meanwhile, Tsering Namgyal, the Congress candidate and a prominent Tour Operator, disclosed movable assets along with his spouse’s, including a car and gold ornaments. However, he did not list any immovable assets, only mentioning loan liabilities.

On the other hand, Sajjad Hussain Kargili, an independent candidate and leader of Kargil Democratic Alliance, declared cash assets for himself and his spouse, but omitted any mention of immovable assets or liabilities.

Thus, the candidates for the Ladakh Parliamentary seat present a varied spectrum of financial disclosures, with Mohd Haneefa Jan leading in terms of declared wealth, followed by Tashi Gyalson, while Tsering Namgyal and Sajjad Hussain Kargili provide differing profiles in their asset declarations.
