March 9 (WD) The Srinagar-Jammu National Highway is set to undergo a temporary closure for 14 hours on both Saturday and Sunday between Nashri and Banihal in Ramban district. This decision has been taken to facilitate road widening activities aimed at improving the infrastructure and safety of the highway.

The order for the suspension of vehicular movement during these hours was issued in response to a requisition received from the Project Director of the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), Project Implementation Unit (PIU) Ramban.

According to the official order obtained by Kashmir News Observer, the traffic haltage will commence from 10 PM on March 9, 2024, and will last until 12 noon on March 10, 2024. The purpose of this temporary closure is to allow for the widening of the carriageway to two lanes at Dhalwas, with additional work on widening at other locations along the stretch from Nashri to Banihal. The authorities have emphasized that this measure is essential for ensuring the safety and well-being of the general populace, travelers, and drivers utilizing the highway.

The order further directs the Senior Superintendent of Police in Ramban and the Senior Superintendent of Police for Traffic on National Highways in Ramban to enforce these directives diligently. It is crucial that all stakeholders involved in the implementation of this traffic haltage adhere strictly to the conditions outlined by the Project Director of NHAI, PIU Ramban. By following these guidelines, the widening and restoration work can proceed smoothly and efficiently, ultimately leading to a more robust and safer road infrastructure along this vital highway.

The decision to temporarily suspend traffic flow on the Srinagar-Jammu National Highway reflects a proactive approach towards infrastructure development and maintenance. While this may cause inconvenience to commuters during the specified hours, it is a necessary step to enhance the capacity and safety of the highway.
