Traffic Advisory for Jammu and Kashmir – 25th March 2024
The Traffic Police Headquarters in Jammu and Kashmir has issued an advisory regarding the traffic situation on NH-44, commonly known as the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway, and other important roads in the region.
From 23rd March 1700 hrs. to 24th March 1700 hrs., slow movement was observed on NH-44 due to the breakdown of six Heavy Motor Vehicles (HMVs) and single lane traffic at several points including Dalwas, Mehad, Panthyal, Nachlana, and Shalgarhi. Additionally, poor road surface conditions were reported between Nashri and NAVYUG Tunnel.
Passengers and Light Motor Vehicle (LMV) operators are urged to undertake journeys on the Jammu-Srinagar NHW during daylight hours, as night travel raises concerns about shooting stones between Ramban and Banihal.
Load carrier operators, both HMVs and LMVs, transporting fresh perishable or live stock, are advised to adhere to the issued advisories due to single lane traffic and poor road conditions at various locations along the Jammu-Srinagar NHW.
Operators and owners of HMVs are requested to avoid overloading and to ensure their vehicles are adequately fueled and fit for the journey. Furthermore, only HMVs with 06 and 10 tyres will be permitted to ply through Dhar road.
For the traffic plan on 25th March 2024, LMVs will be allowed from both sides on the Jammu-Srinagar NHW, subject to fair weather and road conditions. However, the movement of HMVs will be regulated based on road assessments.
Specific cut-off timings for LMVs have been established, particularly considering the single road at Dalwas. No vehicles will be allowed after the designated cut-off timings.
Security Forces are advised to adhere to the traffic plan to avoid congestion, especially between Nashree and Banihal. SF convoys may ply from Srinagar towards Jammu after confirming the NHW status from TCU Ramban.
On the SSG Road, one-way traffic for LMVs from Srinagar towards Kargil will be permitted, subject to favorable weather and road conditions. Motorists are reminded to carry anti-skid chains for better grip on slippery roads.
Mughal Road, Bhaderwah-Chamba road, and Kishtwar-Sinthan-Anantnag NH-244 remain blocked due to snow accumulation.
Residents are advised to verify road statuses from Traffic Control Units before embarking on journeys, with contact information provided for Jammu, Srinagar, Ramban, Udhampur, and PCR Kishtwar.
