Traffic Advisory and Updates for Jammu-Srinagar National Highway and Surrounding Routes

From 21st to 22nd April 2024, the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway witnessed disruptions due to landslides and shooting stones at Gangroo, Banihal, resulting in a three-hour blockage. Additionally, slow movement was reported along NH-44 due to breakdowns, nomadic flocks, and single-lane traffic at various points, coupled with poor road conditions between Nashri and NAVYUG Tunnel. Passengers and light vehicle operators are advised to travel during daylight hours to avoid potential risks, especially between Ramban and Banihal where shooting stones are a concern.

Load carrier operators are urged to adhere to traffic advisories regarding loading their vehicles, considering the single-lane traffic and poor road conditions at specific locations like Dalwas, Panthyal, Nachlana, and Shalgarhi on the Jammu-Srinagar NHW. Owners of heavy motor vehicles are reminded to avoid overloading, ensure vehicle fitness, and carry sufficient fuel for the journey. Moreover, vehicles with only 06 and 10 tyres are permitted on the Dhar road.

For April 23rd, 2024, LMVs are scheduled to operate from both sides of the Jammu-Srinagar NHW, subject to weather and road conditions. However, heavy motor vehicles will be managed based on road assessments. Cut-off timings for LMVs are set to regulate traffic flow due to single-lane conditions at specific locations. Security Forces are urged to adhere to traffic plans to avoid congestion, especially between Nashree and Banihal.

The Kishtwar-Sinthan-Anantnag NH-244 remains closed, while on the Srinagar-Kargil route, one-way traffic for LMVs is permitted from Srinagar to Kargil via Sonamarg-Gumari road, with vehicles allowed between 8:00 AM to 11:00 AM. Motorists are advised to use anti-skid chains for added traction on slippery roads. Mughal Road and Bhaderwah-Chamba road remain closed due to adverse weather conditions and snow accumulation.

Travelers are advised to verify the status of NH-44 by contacting Traffic Control Units in Jammu (0191-2459048, 0191-2740550, 9419147732, 103), Srinagar (0194-2450022, 2485396, 18001807091, 103), Ramban (9419993745, 1800-180-7043), Udhampur (8491928625), PCR Kishtwar (9906154100), and PCR Kargil (9541902330, 9541902331) before undertaking their journey. This comprehensive advisory aims to ensure the safety and smooth flow of traffic amidst challenging conditions along various routes in the region.
