Summer Holidays Announced for Kashmir Schools, Timings Also Changed

10-Day Summer Break Announced for Kashmir Schools from July 1: Education Minister Sakina Itoo
Srinagar, June 19: In response to the rising temperatures across the region, Jammu and Kashmir’s Education Minister Sakina Itoo has announced a 10-day summer vacation for all private and government schools in the Kashmir division, starting from July 1 to July 10.
The decision comes amid a severe heatwave affecting the Valley, prompting the government to take precautionary measures for the well-being of students and staff. “In view of the intense heatwave, summer vacations for all schools in the Kashmir division will begin on July 1 and will continue till July 10,” the minister told the press.
Sakina Itoo also stated that the government will reassess the weather conditions after July 10 to determine whether an extension of the vacation is necessary. “If the weather does not improve, we will consider extending the holidays accordingly,” she added.
Alongside the vacation announcement, the minister also confirmed a change in school timings, effective from Saturday. Within the Srinagar Municipal limits, schools will now operate from 8:00 AM to 1:00 PM, while schools located outside municipal limits will function from 8:30 AM to 1:30 PM.
These decisions aim to safeguard students from the harsh summer conditions and ensure a comfortable learning environment when schools reopen.
