Snowy Splendor: Aharbal Winter Carnival Wows Visitors.

The Aharbal winter carnival, jointly organized by the administration, Aharbal Development Authority, Tourism Department, and Forest Division Kulgam, welcomed hundreds of participants amidst the picturesque snow-capped mountains and frozen streams. Located about 30 kilometers from Kulgam town, the carnival aimed to highlight the tourist potential of the area and celebrate the beauty of winter. Inaugurated by District Development Council Chairman Mohammad Afzal Parray, DIG South Kashmir Altaf Ahmad Khan, and Deputy Commissioner Kulgam Athar Aamir Khan, the event kicked off with a flurry of activities on the first day.

Famous for its roaring waterfall and surreal landscapes, Aharbal attracts tourists from across the globe. District Commissioner Athar Aamir Khan emphasized the district’s natural beauty, including other scenic spots like Gurawatan and Chiranbal. With upper meadows and glacial lakes nestled among the Pir Panchal mountain range, the area boasts exceptional beauty and tourism potential. The carnival aimed to showcase these attractions and invite more tourists to explore the district’s hidden gems.

The overwhelming response from the public demonstrated the success of the carnival in promoting tourism. Thousands of visitors enjoyed cultural programs, winter games, and sports activities such as snow cricket, snow rugby, and tug of war. Additionally, the administration facilitated trekking expeditions, with over 700 to 800 professional trekkers registering for the adventurous journeys through the picturesque landscapes.

The carnival also featured a variety of cultural programs presented by local youth, school children, and CRPF personnel. These performances added to the festive atmosphere and showcased the rich cultural heritage of the region. Furthermore, stalls set up by different departments highlighted various government schemes and initiatives, providing visitors with information on horticulture, handicrafts, fisheries, and NRLM initiatives.

Overall, the Aharbal winter carnival successfully achieved its objective of promoting tourism and celebrating the natural beauty of the area. By bringing together locals and tourists in a vibrant celebration, the event contributed to the economic and cultural development of the region.
