Six persons injured in a leopard attack in Central Kashmir

A tragic incident occurred in Budgam on Tuesday when a wild leopard attacked six individuals in the Nasrullahpora area. The victims were working in the agricultural fields when the leopard suddenly appeared and assaulted them, causing serious injuries.

According to an official report from the news agency Kashmir Scroll, the locals immediately responded to the attack. They rushed the injured persons to a nearby hospital to receive urgent medical attention. Among the injured was Danish Ahmad Malik, who was later referred to SMHS Hospital for more advanced treatment due to the severity of his injuries.

A doctor at the local hospital provided further details to the news agency, identifying the injured individuals. The victims included Abdul Gaffar Rather, a 70-year-old man, and Adil Shafi Mir, aged about 25 years. Both are residents of Nasrullahpora in Budgam.

Other injured persons were identified as Jahangir Ahmad Mir, aged 27, and Waqar Rashid Dar, who is 21 years old. They also hail from the same locality and were part of the group attacked by the leopard while engaged in agricultural work.

Suhail Ahmad Magloo, an 18-year-old, was another victim of this horrific incident. All injured individuals were immediately given first aid before being referred to higher medical centers for further treatment.

In the aftermath of the attack, local residents managed to kill the leopard. The wildlife officials have confirmed that the leopard’s body has been recovered from the scene of the incident.

This tragic encounter highlights the ongoing human-wildlife conflict in the region. Such incidents often occur due to the encroachment of human settlements into wildlife habitats, which leads to dangerous interactions between humans and wild animals.

Authorities are likely to investigate the circumstances surrounding the leopard’s attack to prevent future occurrences. Meanwhile, the community remains on high alert, hoping for the speedy recovery of all those injured in this unfortunate event.
