Security Forces’ Bust Militant Hideout in Kupwara; Large Cache of Arms, Ammo Recovered

Srinagar, May 27 (WD): A significant cache of arms and ammunition was recovered by security forces in the Kot Nala forests of Wavura area, located in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district. An official stated that the operation was launched following precise intelligence inputs.

The search operation was carried out by a joint team consisting of the army’s 160 Territorial Army (TA) unit and the Kupwara police. This coordinated effort highlights the ongoing collaboration between different security agencies in tackling militancy in the region.

According to the official, the team discovered a substantial militant hideout containing a large cache of arms, ammunition, and war-like stores. The discovery underscores the persistent threat posed by militant groups operating in the area.

Among the recovered items were four AK-Magazines and an extensive 1450 rounds of AK-Ammunition. This significant haul suggests that the militants were well-prepared for extended engagements, posing a serious threat to security forces and civilians alike.

In addition to the AK-Ammunition, 190 rounds of sniper ammunition were also found. This indicates a capability for precision attacks, which could have been used to target high-value assets or individuals, raising the stakes for security operations in the region.

The forces also seized two pistols, each with its own magazine, and an ammunition pouch. The presence of these items suggests the militants were equipped for close-quarters combat, a common scenario in insurgency situations.

Further items included a binocular and a walkie-talkie, essential tools for surveillance and communication. The presence of these tools indicates that the militants were prepared for coordinated operations and situational awareness, enhancing their operational capabilities.

Interestingly, a cigarette packet, along with the other items, was identified as being of Pakistan origin. This discovery adds weight to the ongoing claims of external support to the militants, highlighting the complex geopolitical dimensions of the conflict in the region.
