Railway Minister Announces Rs 3,694 Crore Allocation for J&K Projects, USBRL Nearing Completion
Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced on Wednesday that Rs 3,694 crore has been allocated for ongoing railway projects in Jammu and Kashmir this year.
The minister also shared that the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link (USBRL) project is nearing completion and will be inaugurated soon by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Addressing the media in Delhi, Vaishnaw stated that new projects are also being taken up, and detailed project reports (DPRs) are being prepared for the same.
He highlighted that work is underway on several projects, including the Baramulla-Uri railway line, two other lines, and the development of four terminals from the Budgam to Baramulla section.
Additionally, four new stations are being built, including Budgam, Jammu Tawi, Mata Vaishno Devi Katra, and Udhampur station.
Regarding the USBRL project, Vaishnaw mentioned that only a 17 km section (Tunnel T1) between Katra and Reasi is still under construction.
The minister confirmed that the Chenab bridge and railway line up to the Sangaldan section have already been made operational, and the Sangaldan to Reasi section has also been completed.
Vaishnaw expressed excitement about the USBRL project, calling it a “dream come true” and assured that it will be inaugurated by Prime Minister Modi very soon.
