Power Department Announces Major Relief for Domestic Consumers

Kashmir Power Distribution Corporation Limited (KPDCL) has waived off Rs. 53.11 crore in late payment surcharges under the Government’s Power Amnesty Scheme.

Over 1.02 lakh domestic consumers have benefited from the scheme so far, paying their principal amount due to KPDCL.

The scheme, announced in 2022 and extended till March 31, 2025, allows domestic consumers to settle their long-pending bills without incurring late payment surcharges.

KPDCL urges domestic consumers to take advantage of the waiver and settle their bills by approaching their concerned Electric Subdivision.

Consumers can pay the principal amount due in full or in equal installments to claim the waiver.

Power Amnesty Camps are being held across all Electric Subdivisions to facilitate consumers, with an overwhelming response seen so far.

However, many consumers with outstanding dues are yet to approach the concerned Subdivisions, and KPDCL will intensify electricity disconnections for those who do not avail the scheme’s benefits.

The scheme has collected a revenue of Rs. 144 crore for KPDCL, with the waived amount totaling Rs. 53.11 crore, providing significant relief to domestic consumers.
