Police Attaches Property Worth 1.43 Crore of Drug Peddlers in South Kashmir

Kulgam, June 14: Continuing its crackdown on drug peddlers, the Police in Kulgam have attached properties worth 1.43 crore rupees belonging to individuals involved in multiple drug-related cases. This significant action is part of an ongoing effort to combat the drug menace in the region.

The properties attached include a double-storied residential house measuring 1093.50 square feet and a cowshed measuring 437.25 square feet, both valued at approximately 70 lakhs. These properties belong to Bashir Ahmad Ganie, the son of Mohd Ahsan Ganie, a resident of Nassu Badragund, Qazigund. Ganie is currently lodged in Central Jail Kot Balwal, Jammu, under the PIT NDPS Act.

Additionally, the police attached a newly constructed two-storied residential house valued at around 73 lakhs. This property belongs to Ghulam Nabi Kuttay, the son of Abdul Aziz Kuttay, a resident of Kaladrund, Frisal. Kuttay is presently under police custody. The actions against these properties were taken under Sections 68-E read with 68-F (1) of the NDPS Act of 1985.

These measures are linked with case FIR no 40/2023 under Section 8/15 of the NDPS Act of Police Station Qazigund, and FIR no 26/2024 under Section 8/15 of the NDPS Act of Police Station Yaripora. The investigation revealed that the properties were illegally acquired through the illicit trafficking of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances by the aforementioned drug peddlers.

The police identified these properties as illegally acquired during the course of their investigation and enquiry. The properties were found to be purchased with the proceeds from the trafficking of narcotics, leading to their attachment under the relevant sections of the law.

This operation underscores the police’s commitment to eradicating the drug menace from the area. The rigorous enforcement of the NDPS Act serves as a warning to those involved in drug trafficking that their illegal activities will not be tolerated and their ill-gotten gains will be seized.

The local populace has lauded the police’s initiative, expressing their support and relief over the authorities’ decisive actions against the drug peddlers. Community members believe that such stringent measures are necessary to curb the spread of narcotics and ensure the safety and well-being of the residents.
