MMU Pledges to Counter Attempts to Disrupt Sectarian Harmony in J&K
The Muttahida Majlise-e-Ulama (MMU), a conglomerate of religious leaders in Jammu & Kashmir, has reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining sectarian harmony and unity in the region. Led by Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, the MMU held a meeting on Monday at the Nigeen residence of Mirwaiz, where leaders of major religious organisations expressed their collective resolve to counter any attempts to disrupt sectarian harmony.
Mirwaiz Umar Farooq reiterated the group’s dedication to ensuring that sectarian disputes do not undermine the unity of the Kashmiri people. He emphasized the importance of maintaining unity and traditional sectarian harmony, stating that the MMU will strive to represent every sect and uphold a unified stance.
The meeting also addressed concerns about the misuse of social media, with Mirwaiz urging caution and responsible use to prevent exacerbating sectarian tensions. He warned that any issues that arise will be addressed through emergency meetings and collaborative efforts, and that the MMU will not tolerate any actions or statements that lead to discord within the community.
Mirwaiz emphasized that the MMU has resolved that no future divisive statements will be permitted, and that perpetrators of such statements will be held accountable. He also stressed the importance of upholding Islamic principles in promoting unity among different sects, stating that all sects must stand united on the foundation of these principles.
The MMU has called for scholars, masjid imams, and social media users to refrain from targeting the beliefs of other sects, causing conflict. The meeting emphasized that the issues faced by the Muslim community can only be overcome by uniting under the banner of Tawheed (monotheism).
The scholars present at the meeting condemned recent efforts by certain groups to incite sectarian discord, calling these actions regretful and reprehensible. They vowed to respect religious personalities and avoid making minor differences into contentious matters that advance narrow sectarian objectives.
The MMU asserted that it will not tolerate provocations, sectarian discord, or the denigration of each other’s beliefs. As a responsible and robust forum of Muslims in Jammu & Kashmir, the MMU will confront elements that seek to disrupt unity and hold them accountable in the public domain.
The meeting was attended by prominent religious leaders, including Maulana Rahmatullah Mir al-Qasimi, Agha Syed Hassan al-Moosvi al-Safawi, Grand Mufti of Kashmir Mufti Nasir ul-Islam Farooqi, and others. The MMU’s commitment to maintaining sectarian harmony and unity is a significant step towards promoting peace and stability in the region.
