Militant Associate held in North Kashmir, police

Srinagar, June 30 (WD): Police on Sunday said that they arrested a terror associate in the Machipora Sopore area of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district.

A police officer told the news agency Kashmir Scroll that police, along with the Army, intercepted a white-colored Maruti Swift bearing registration No. JK01AK-4452 during a naka checking operation. The vehicle was coming from Bomai towards Machipora.

Despite being signaled to stop, the driver attempted to flee but was apprehended tactfully by the alert naka party.

During questioning, the driver disclosed his identity as Waheed ul Zahoor, son of Zahoor ul Rahim, a resident of Hadipora, Rafiabad, currently residing in Mustafabad HMT Srinagar.

Upon searching the vehicle, police recovered two Turkish pistols, three Turkish pistol magazines, 41 pistol rounds, two Chinese grenades, one Turkish pistol silencer, and incriminating IED materials.

The arrest and the seizure of these materials are significant, indicating the suspect’s involvement in terrorist activities.

A case has been registered under FIR No 37/2024 U/S 16, 18, 23, 38 UAP(A) 3, 4, the officer said.

This arrest is part of ongoing efforts by security forces to curb terrorism in the region and maintain peace and security. (WD)
