Sonamarg, Feb 08 (WD):

Snow Avalanche Narrowly Avoided in Sonamarg, Wattan Daily Reports

Sonamarg, Feb 08 (WD) – Officials have reported a close call with a potentially devastating snow avalanche in central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district on Thursday afternoon, as disclosed to Wattan Daily.

Insights from local authorities indicate that a significant snow avalanche threatened the Sonamarg area, sliding down the mountains and coming to a halt in Sindh.

Fortunately, there were no casualties or property damage reported in the aftermath of the incident.

In response to this near miss, authorities have issued a weather advisory, a copy of which has been obtained by Insight Kashmir. The advisory, prompted by the avalanche warning for altitudes above 2300 meters over Ganderbal from February 7th to February 8th, 2024, advises residents of Ganderbal district to exercise caution. They are warned against venturing into slopes, hilly terrain, or avalanche-prone areas until further notice. (WD)
