Man assaults youth during cricket match in Pulwama, victim fights for life
An 18-year-old youth from Ratnipora village of Pulwama is battling for his life at SKIMS after being assaulted by a 45-year-old man during a cricket match. The incident occurred on May 28 at the Lajura cricket ground, where Faizaan Qayoom Bhat was attacked with a wooden rod by Younis Sheikh of Puchal village.
Witnesses reported that the assault happened following a scuffle during the match. Teams from Puchal and Ratnipora were competing when an argument broke out in the final overs regarding a player’s residence. The disagreement escalated, leading to the violent confrontation.
As tensions rose, Younis Sheikh allegedly struck Faizaan with a wooden rod, causing severe injuries. The attack left Faizaan grievously injured, and witnesses noted that Younis’ sons were playing for the Puchal team, which may have prompted his aggressive actions.
Faizaan was immediately taken to the District Hospital in Pulwama. Due to the severity of his injuries, doctors referred him to SKIMS Soura for more advanced treatment. Medical professionals at SKIMS have confirmed that Faizaan sustained significant head trauma from the assault.
Faizaan’s uncle stated that his teammates quickly informed the Pulwama police about the incident. The family is deeply concerned about Faizaan’s condition and is calling for strict action against the perpetrator. The community is rallying around the young victim, hoping for his swift recovery and justice.
Police officials in Pulwama have acknowledged the incident and initiated an investigation. They are working to gather all relevant details and evidence to take appropriate legal action against Younis Sheikh.
Faizaan’s teammates and family members are demanding that Sheikh Younis be held accountable for his violent actions. They believe that such heinous acts must be met with the full force of the law to ensure justice and prevent future occurrences.
“This heinous act must be met with the full force of the law. Sheikh Younis should be arrested and held accountable for his actions without any delay,” said Mir Ubaid, one of Faizaan’s teammates. The community’s call for justice highlights the urgent need for legal intervention and support for the victim’s family.
