J&K’s Tourism Sector Soars with Over 1 Crore Visitors Till June
The Centre has announced that over 1 crore tourists have visited Jammu and Kashmir till June this year. This marks a significant milestone in the tourism sector of the region.
Minister of State for Home Affairs Nityanand Rai revealed this information in response to a question by MP Dinesh Sharma. Rai stated that the tourism sector in J&K has witnessed unprecedented growth post-abrogation of Article 370.
According to Rai, the number of tourists visiting J&K has been steadily increasing over the years. In 2020, 34,70,834 tourists visited the region, followed by 1,13,14,884 in 2021 and 1,88,64,332 in 2022.
The year 2023 saw a significant jump in tourist numbers, with 2,11,24,874 visitors. And till June this year, 1,08,41,009 tourists have already visited J&K.
The Centre attributes this growth to various measures taken by the government, including the Tourism Policy 2020 and granting industry status to the tourism sector. This has enabled the sector to avail incentives under the Jammu and Kashmir Industrial Policy 2021.
The government’s efforts have led to a significant improvement in the tourism sector, making J&K an attractive destination for visitors from across the country and abroad.
The increase in tourist numbers is a testament to the region’s natural beauty, rich culture, and warm hospitality. It also highlights the government’s commitment to promoting tourism and creating opportunities for economic growth.
Overall, the tourism sector in J&K is thriving, and the Centre’s initiatives are expected to further boost growth and development in the region.
