Jammu Srinagar National Highway Update,Traffic Delays

Traffic Update: Repair Work Causes Delays on Jammu-Srinagar NHW

Traffic Police Headquarters in Jammu and Kashmir issued an advisory regarding the status of the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway (NHW). Repair work at Dalwas led to a 1 hour and 45-minute blockage of the highway, causing slow movement. Additionally, breakdowns of three Heavy Motor Vehicles (HMVs) and single-lane traffic at various points contributed to delays. Motorists experienced sluggish progress particularly at Dalwas, Panthyal, Nachlana, Shalgarhi, and encountered poor road conditions between Nashri and NAVYUG Tunnel.

Safety Advisory for Travelers:Passengers and Light Motor Vehicle (LMV) operators were advised to schedule their journeys on the Jammu-Srinagar NHW during daylight hours. Nighttime travel was discouraged due to the risk of shooting stones between Ramban and Banihal. Operators transporting fresh perishable or live stock were urged to adhere to loading guidelines issued by Traffic Police Headquarters, considering the ongoing repair work and road conditions.

Caution for Heavy Vehicle Operators:Heavy Motor Vehicle (HMV) operators were cautioned against overloading and reminded to ensure sufficient fuel for their journeys. It was emphasized that vehicle fitness checks were essential before embarking on trips along the Jammu-Srinagar NHW. Furthermore, HMVs with only six and ten tires were specified to be permitted through Dhar road, adding an additional layer of precaution.

Traffic Plan for 18th March 2024:The traffic plan for the following day detailed the schedule for allowing LMVs and HMVs on the Jammu-Srinagar NHW, contingent upon weather conditions and road status. LMVs were slated for specific cutoff timings to manage traffic flow efficiently. Security Forces were advised to adhere to traffic plans to prevent congestion, especially between Nashree and Banihal. Road closures due to snow accumulation were reported on various routes, including the Srinagar-Sonamarg-Gumari Road, Mughal Road, Bhaderwah-Chamba Road, and Kishtwar-Sinthan-Anantnag NH-244.

Traveler Advisory and Contact Information:Travelers were urged to confirm road conditions with Traffic Control Units before embarking on journeys, with contact details provided for Jammu, Srinagar, Ramban, Udhampur, and Kishtwar. The advisory aimed to ensure the safety and smooth passage of commuters amid ongoing repair work and adverse weather conditions.
