Jammu Srinagar National Highway Important Traffic Update

From 14-05-2024, 1700 hrs. to 15-05-2024, 1700 hrs., slow movement was observed on NH-44 due to several factors, including the breakdown of eight heavy motor vehicles (HMVs), the presence of twelve nomadic flocks, single lane traffic at multiple locations, and poor road conditions between Nashri and NAVYUG Tunnel.

Passengers and operators of light motor vehicles (LMVs) are advised to travel on the Jammu-Srinagar NHW during daylight hours. The movement of nomads towards the Kashmir Valley may cause inconvenience to commuters, and there is also the risk of shooting stones between Ramban and Banihal.

Operators of load carriers transporting fresh perishables or livestock should adhere to the advisories issued by the Traffic Police Headquarters. There is single lane traffic and poor road conditions at Dalwas, Panthyal, Magerkote, Nachlana, and Shalgarhi on the Jammu-Srinagar NHW.

HVM operators and owners are requested to avoid overloading and ensure they have sufficient fuel before traveling on the Jammu-Srinagar NHW. Vehicle owners must double-check the fitness of their vehicles to avoid breakdowns on this route.

Only HMVs with six and ten tires are permitted to travel through Dhar road. This restriction aims to manage traffic flow and maintain safety on the Jammu-Srinagar NHW.

For the traffic plan and advisory on 16-05-2024, subject to fair weather and good road conditions, LMVs and private cars will be allowed from both directions on the Jammu-Srinagar NHW. HMVs will be permitted from Jakheni (Udhampur) towards Srinagar after the LMV tail has passed and road conditions have been assessed.

The cut-off timing for LMVs is as follows: from Nagrota (Jammu) 0600 hrs to 1300 hrs, from Jakheni (Udhampur) 0700 hrs to 1400 hrs, and from NAVYUG Tunnel (Qazigund side) 0600 hrs to 1300 hrs. No vehicles will be allowed after these cut-off times.

Security Forces are advised not to travel against the advisory to avoid traffic congestion between Nashree and Banihal. They may travel from Jammu towards Srinagar after confirming the NHW status with TCU Ramban. Additionally, one-way traffic for LMVs with anti-skid chains will be allowed from Kishtwar to Anantnag on the Kishtwar-Sinthan-Anantnag road, and one-way traffic from Srinagar to Kargil on the SSG road. The Mughal road will allow vehicular movement from both directions, and the Bhaderwah-Chamba road is open for vehicular movement.

Travelers are advised to check the road status with Traffic Control Units before starting their journey. Contact numbers for various regions are provided for assistance.
