Jamat E Islami Spokesperson Involved In Several Crimes Surrenders In Srinagar: Police

Srinagar, May 19 (WD): Police announced on Sunday that a former Jamat-e-Islami spokesperson, implicated in various conspiracies and crimes, has surrendered to authorities in Srinagar. This development marks a significant breakthrough in ongoing efforts to tackle anti-national activities in the region.

In an official handout to WD, police identified the accused as Ali Mohd Lone, also known as Advocate Zahid Ali, son of Habibullah Lone, and a resident of Nihama Pulwama. Lone has been involved in a range of serious offenses, leading to his arrest on May 16, 2024.

The police detailed that Lone was implicated in Case FIR No. 19/2019, under several sections including 13 UAP Act, 147, 148, 149, 336, 332, 427, 307, 435, 436, 120, and 225 RPC of Police Station Rainawari. His surrender came as a significant relief to law enforcement officials who have been tracking his activities for years.

According to the police spokesman, Lone’s criminal activities include conspiring and committing crimes such as arson, rioting, an attempt to jailbreak, raising anti-national slogans, and stone-pelting at the Srinagar Central Jail in 2019. These actions had severely disrupted law and order and posed a significant threat to public safety.

Ali Mohd Lone’s role as the spokesperson of the now-banned organization Jamat-e-Islami added a notable dimension to his criminal activities. The Jamat-e-Islami has been under scrutiny for its involvement in various anti-national activities, and Lone’s arrest is seen as a critical step in dismantling the network.

The police statement highlighted that Lone’s surrender and subsequent arrest are part of broader efforts to maintain peace and security in the region. Authorities emphasized their commitment to addressing and curbing the influence of banned organizations and their operatives.

Lone’s surrender is expected to lead to further investigations and possibly more arrests, as law enforcement agencies continue their crackdown on those involved in anti-national activities. This case underscores the ongoing challenges faced by security forces in maintaining order and addressing threats in the region.

The police reiterated their appeal to individuals involved in similar activities to surrender and cooperate with law enforcement to avoid severe legal consequences. The surrender of Ali Mohd Lone sets a precedent and sends a strong message about the relentless efforts of the police to ensure the rule of law.
