Historic Milestone: Dr Saveera Parkash, First Hindu Woman to Contest Elections in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa

Pakistan, Dec 26 (WD): Historic Milestone: Dr Saveera Parkash, First Hindu Woman to Contest Elections in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Pakistani-Hindu Dr Saveera Parkash is making history as the first woman from the minority community to run in the upcoming general elections from Buner district in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. Having submitted her nomination papers for the PK-25 general seat on December 23, she is a member of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) and currently serves as the women wing general secretary in the district, aiming to contest the elections on the party’s ticket.

Scheduled for February 8, 2024, the general elections in Pakistan will witness Dr Saveera Parkash’s bid for a legislative seat. A graduate of Abbottabad International Medical College with an MBBS degree earned in 2022, she expressed her intrinsic desire to serve humanity, inspired by her medical background.

Dr Parkash shared her motivation to enter politics, citing her firsthand experience with poor management and helplessness in government hospitals during her tenure as a doctor. Her aspiration is to follow in the footsteps of her father, Oam Parkash, a recently retired doctor and active PPP member for 35 years, who dedicated his efforts to serving the area’s impoverished population.

Social media influencer Imran Noshad Khan endorsed Dr Saveera Parkash’s candidacy, emphasizing the historic significance of her participation as the first female candidate from Buner. Breaking stereotypes, he expressed wholehearted support for her in the upcoming elections.

Highlighting the commitment to gender representation, the Election Commission of Pakistan mandates a minimum of 5% women candidates on general seats, reflecting a broader effort to encourage inclusivity in the democratic process-(WD)
