Head Constable Killed in JK Road Accident

Srinagar, June 10 (WD): A head constable of the Jammu and Kashmir Police lost his life in a tragic road accident in Doda district. The incident occurred late on Sunday night, causing a major disruption and initiating a challenging rescue operation.

A police official informed the Srinagar-based news agency Wattan daily that the accident happened around 10.30 PM. A S-Presso car bearing registration number JK06 8742, traveling from Jammu towards Doda, veered off the road near Assar and plunged approximately 800-900 meters down from the highway.

The deceased has been identified as Ram Raj, the son of Amar Chand, and a resident of Paryote Doda. Ram Raj was serving as a head constable in the Jammu and Kashmir Police, adding a somber note to the already tragic incident.

Upon receiving the information, volunteers from the Al-Khair Organisation and the JK Police rushed to the accident site. A search operation was immediately launched to locate the missing individuals. After three hours of extensive searching, Ram Raj’s body was found around 2.30 AM, stuck on a steep rock.

Due to the high risk involved in the dark and treacherous conditions, the rescue operation was temporarily called off at 2.30 AM. The safety of the rescuers was a primary concern, prompting this difficult decision.

At dawn, the rescue operation resumed at 5.30 AM. With renewed efforts and better visibility, the body of Ram Raj was successfully retrieved. This effort was a joint operation conducted by the volunteers of Al-Khair Organisation, the police, and the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) Doda.

The local authorities have taken cognizance of the incident and initiated a thorough investigation. The loss of a dedicated police officer under such circumstances is a profound tragedy for the community and the police force.

This incident highlights the risks associated with road travel in the region, especially during the night. The local community and officials are in mourning, reflecting on the unfortunate loss of a committed law enforcement officer.
